UIM 242 stepper controller with CANBus

UIM24204/24208 are miniature, intelligent stepper motor controllers equipped with CAN (control area network) bus for building up local networking INTEGRATED STEPPER MOTORS. By using these motor controllers, user can control multiple motors in real-time. To communicate with these motor controllers, user needs one RS232 to CAN Converter (UIM250, sold separately). The UIM250 RS232 to CAN Converter communicates with the user devices/controllers through RS232 protocol using ASCII codes. Through this fashion, users can operate these controllers with minor or no knowledge about the stepper motor driving and CAN bus. The structure of the instructions (i.e. commands from user) is simple, straightforward and fault-tolerating. UIM24204/24208 can be mounted onto Nema 17, 23, 24 and 34 stepper motors seamlessly through corresponding flanges. The thickness of these stepper controllers is less than 14 millimeter. Enclosures of UIM24204/24208 are made of die-cast aluminum which provide a rugged and durable protection to the stepper motion controller and improve the heat dissipation.

Networking Stepper Motors

A stepper motor is a kind of electric motor with an internal rotor containing permanent magnets and a set of electro-magnet coils around the rotor which are switched electronically. Stepper motors "cog" to a limited number of positions, but with a microstepping controller, which partially activate ajacent coils so that the rotor rests between positions, stepper motors can rotate more smoothly.
